Deciding to
write today’s post was a very difficult decision for me. But it’s something I
felt I had to do. For two years now, I‘ve been sharing my record recollections
with you. Hiding behind rare indie imports and obscure gothic gatefolds. While
all the while recoiling in shame from a shadowy figure from my past. A figure
that holds an unearthly dominance over The Smiths and Sisters of Mercy in the ‘S’
section of my archive. Yes, today I must face you all and reveal that I was
once a Shakin’ Stevens fan, and own everything he released between 1978 and
1983.
I have no
excuses. But if I did have some, they would be things like… It was a long time
ago. I was hanging out with a bad crowd. And I never really thought about the
consequences.
I’m not going
to blame anyone else for giving that first Shaky record to me, or even say who
it was. I take full responsibility for my own actions. But I know now it was dangerous
and can destroy lives. I just hope this hasn’t caused you too much upset.

Why do people always feel that they have to justify liking Shaky?.His style and roots were based around 50's rock n Roll, an era of music that is still loved today, it has it's place in history. All Shaky did, was to revive it in the 1980's, and he did that style of music very well. He was also the biggest selling male solo artist of the 80's in the UK and most of Europe too, yet you stopped buying his record in 83?. . . .not a very big fan then like you claim?, and for the record, Shaky wasn't making hits in 1978, he had been in the west end Elvis Musical and had cut a couple of records and an LP for Track records that didn't go anywhere, but between 1980 & 1990 he notched up 33 top 3o hit singles. Shaky was also excellent live and still is. I'm the only one that has replied to this post since 2012?, which kinda sums up how interesting you made it. Did you ever really like Shaky?, i have to wonder. . . .
